Sam is from Canada. He is a real estate investor and developer of some 35 years residing in Calgary, Alberta.

Now Sam, how long have you been looking to purchase a second home?
I have not been looking at all.

What do you mean about, not at all?
I have always felt that there are so many beautiful places in the world to visit that one should not tie up capital in a single area, where, because of the investment, you feel obligated to come and use.
Things happen in life without us planning it. October 2007 while I was visiting my daughter in Orlando, Florida, I met a young man who was involved with LaAmada, he could not find enough superlatives while describing LaAmada, and I was also impressed by the fact that he spoke 5 languages. He convinced me to fly to Cancun and take a look at it, which I did in November 2007. Notwithstanding my agreement to go, I made it clear that I was not a candidate to purchase.
I flew to Cancun, looked at the real estate, studied the master plan, evaluated the Cancun and area condo market, spoke to the owners from Spain and I changed my mind.
Why did you buy in La Amada?
La Amada has a combination of characteristics that I found very unique, well thought out with clear and inspirational vision.
I realized very quickly that the developer was not selling real estate but their aim was and is to sell a way of life.
Second home purchases is much more than bricks and mortar, it must meet certain life style criterias and value appreciation is only one and many times not the most important consideration.
What did you like about this project specifically?
There are a significant number of things that appealed to me;
First of all this developer bought most of the land in a peninsula (900 acres +/-) and before any construction occured, he master planned the entire purchased lands at significant expense. All the tourism development over the past 20 years have occurred either in the Hotel Zone in Cancun or south along the Mayan Riviera.
By this master plan the future of the area is thereby set in motion, quality control and systematic development for the next 20 + years is set up. ( vision)
2.- The Developer built a 450 room 5 star all inclusive hotel, in this new area where no other hotel accommodation or tourist traffic existed.
3.- Than the developer proceeded to build a 110 unit boutique hotel with a 35,000 sq. ft. Spa, andcontinued with a significant recreational investments: 18 hole Greg Norman golf course, 176 slip first class Marina, helicopter pad, and the first phase of a 214 unit condo development all without pre- marketing and pre-sales.
I was impressed by the developer vision, financial strength and commitment.

4.- The land being on a peninsula is completely secure and the only way unto the property is through a single road and gated entry point.
5.- Property is about 7.0 miles from Cancun and about 13 miles from the Cancun International Airport. Remember, all the traffic is to the south of the airport to the Mayan Riviera, or to the Hotel Zone, thus your travelling time to Cancun is 15 minutes.
6.- The development is very high quality and the amenities are world class. The land with 2 miles of beach front is naturally protected by Isla Mujeres, a 3 mile long island immediately east of the property.
7.- I also noticed that the second phase of development will be a 150,000 sq. ft. commercial retail strip and a further 300 condo units. Retail will be a welcome addition when traffic warrants it for residents for needed daily supplies.
The land is easily accessible but still quite and tranquil away from the busy Cancun hotel zone and the traffic jam of the Mayan Riviera.
You feel like you are in the world but not of the world, you are in your own world.
Due to the high quality of development, premier amenities proximity to Cancun, abundant land which is controlled for future development makes this investment as secure as one can find.
If you are considering a second home investment, this is a must see.

Are you concerned about security in Mexico?
Mexico is no different than any other part of the world. Most of the crime that we hear about in Mexico is drug related and probably you are not secure if you are in the drug business.
Kidnapping seldom involve tourists.
Security and police presence is Cancun is significant for good reason. Cancun is the biggest tourist area in Mexico and tourism is Mexico`s second biggest source of income. The tourists that get into problems , is of their own making to a great degree. An old saying applies in Mexico as well as to other areas of the world; “Don`t shine the spot light too brightly to yourself or you might get shot``.
Don`t flesh your money, and valuables, around be sensitive to those around you.
Why you choose Mexico?

What problems did you encounter?
Registration and legal procedures are more complicated here, financing is also more complicated and more expensive. You may find the bureaucratic process less efficient, but the helpful and courteous LaAmada staff is always there.

People who are looking for a good quality of life, service, amenities, easy access, in a peaceful and private setting but still accessible to the shopping and attractions of a major city, Cancun.
What kind of information was most useful to you before purchasing?
Information on the master plan to understand the future potential, visits to the site a number of times during construction, experience the owners hotel management style by staying in the Excellence Hotel a couple of times and having the opportunity to meet with the owners from Spain, expressing their vision and commitment.
